Request a site

Please make sure you’ve read our guidance on what Learning Spaces is and how it is meant to be used!

Once you are sure that you want a site to use for learning and teaching purposes, you will need to decide what kind of site you would like as there are a few options.

Single module or programme site

We can create a single site that you will use for a specific module or a specific academic programme. This is the ideal type of site if you want your students to contribute to one single page rather than having their own individual pages.

Naming:

We will use either your module ID code (e.g. hy42052) or your programme title (e.g soc-dig for the Social Digital programme in DJCAD). If you want one site that students from different cohorts will contribute to, we’ll leave the URL there. If you want only one cohort of students to add to this blog and you’ll request new blogs for subsequent years, let us know and we’ll add the academic year code to the module ID or programme title (e.g. hy42052-2021).

Set of student sites for a module or programme

If you want each of your students to have a site that they contribute to instead of a combined group page as described above, this is the option you want! To set this up, we’ll first create the single module page as described above. You’ll then need to “Create a class” and send us the names and email addresses of the students who will have sites created (you can do this via the Help4U email chain we’ll contact you from once the page has been created). Once you’ve done that, we will set up sites for the students from that list.

Naming:

We will use either your module ID code (e.g. hy42052) or your programme title (e.g soc-dig for the Social Digital programme in DJCAD). If you want one site that students from different cohorts will contribute to, we’ll leave the URL there. If you want only one cohort of students to add to this blog, and you’ll request new blogs for subsequent years, let us know and we’ll add the academic year code to the module ID or programme title (e.g. hy42052-2021).

The student sites will use the format from the main module/programme page with the addition of their username at the end (e.g. hy42052-2021-jbloggs).

Personal or professional single site

You may also want to create a site for your own personal learning journey, or for a specific academic purpose separate from a module or programme. As long as this is still related to learning and teaching, we can do this for you.

If you want an example of what a site looks like for a professional service, check out the Academic Skills Centre’s site.

Naming:

If this is a personal site, the URL will just be your username.

If this is for a professional service, we’ll try and accommodate specific URL requests, but these are not always guaranteed. We have a naming convention to ensure consistency across our sites. This typically means a standardised version of your school or department followed by customised information for your site.
