Create and submit a video assignment in My Dundee (Student)

What is it?

This guide shows you how to submit a Panopto video assignment in your MyDundee module. The most common reason for doing this is to allow students to submit the assignment to the instructor for a grade.

What does it do?

This guide will cover how to record an assignment, and how to post the video directly to the module instructor/s.

What should I know?

Panopto provides students with a flexible set of tools to capture, edit and distribute video content for a wide range of educational purposes, from assessment to capturing events.

It is integrated into My Dundee and can be accessed directly for those wishing to manage and distribute video more widely. The service is easy to use, accessible and supports the growing need to support rich digital media in our educational experience.

Create a Video Assignment

Step 1: Locate and open the Assignment in your My Dundee Module.

Select Start attempt from the right-hand menu.

Step 2: When prompted to submit a video assignment, navigate to the relevant section and in the text editor that appears click + insert content and select External Apps from the dropdown menu.

Step 3: In the External Apps window select Panopto Student Submission.

Your Panopto site will open in a new window with three options: Choose, Upload and Record

a. Choose an existing recording in Panopto

To choose an existing recording, browse through your available folders, select your video, and then click Insert.

Note: Make sure the correct folder is selected. In this example, it is the course’s assignments folder.

b. Upload an existing recording to Panopto

To upload an existing file, select the Upload tab. On this page, drag and drop up to 100 video or audio files at a time or click to browse your computer for files. Select Insert when you are done uploading

Note: Panopto will use the file name as the session name, but you can rename this while the content is uploading.

c. Record a new submission in Panopto

On the Record tab, select Launch Capture to record with Panopto Capture or select Launch App to record with Panopto for Windows or Panopto for Mac.

Once you have completed your recording, select Insert to submit your video.

Step 4: A pop-up window will appear, prompting you to confirm the name that will display in the assignment submission. Select Insert.

Additional Information

Once your video is uploaded or recorded, it is first added to its related Panopto assignment folder. Once you submit your video, it is moved to the Panopto student submissions subfolder in the course’s Panopto folder. If you have Creator access to another folder, such as a My Folder, you can copy the video from the Student Submissions folder for your own future reference.

If you open your uploaded or recorded video into its own new tab using the open in Panopto arrow icon, you can edit your video before submitting it.

Submit a Video Assignment

Step 1: Your video will appear embedded in the text editor of the submission window. Add text as needed, and then select Submit.

Step 2: You will be prompted to confirm your submission, select Submit to proceed. Your assignment submission will be sent to the instructor.

You will automatically receive a email confirmation of your submission and be given the option to download your submission receipt. Your assignment submission will be sent to the instructor.
