What is it?
If you already have a video file (MP4), you can upload it directly to Panopto. You might have a video file from another source such as a Teams recording, Zoom meeting or a PowerPoint export. The steps below are relevant regardless how the video was made.
What does it do?
Once your video is in Panopto, you can publish it your module channel, embed it in your module (for instructors) or embed it in your assignment (for students). You can also get a link to share the video.
What should I know?
You can upload a video from your laptop or desktop computer, and from your mobile device using the Panopto app or the Panopto website.
Upload your video from a PC
Step 1: Go to dundee.cloud.panopto.eu/ and login using UoD Single Sign-On.
Step 2: Select Browse from the left-hand navigation, select All Folders or My Folders on the left-hand column, and then locate and select the folder to which you want to upload your video (note you can pin this view).
Step 3: After choosing your folder, click on the blue button + Create top in the left-hand menu, then select Upload media from the drop down. After this, there are two methods to upload your video.
Step 3 (Method 1): The easiest method is to open the folder on your computer where the file is being held. Then drag and drop the video file into the main area.
Step 3 (Method 2): Click the dashed area to browse and find where the file is kept, select file/s and click Open.
Depending on the size of the video and your internet bandwidth, it could take a bit of time for the video to be uploaded and processed. Please be patient during this process. You can rename your files at this point.
Step 4: Once the videos have finished uploading and processing, you can hover over the video and click Settings cog to edit the name and description, to change the title, add a subtitle or add any other information. Click Save after each change.
Upload from the Panopto mobile app
If you have your MP4 file on your mobile device, you may find it easier to use the Panopto mobile app or Panopto webpage. You can find this on your phone’s app store:
Step 1: Sign in to Panopto using your UoD email address with dots (j.blogs@dundee.ac.uk).
Step 2: Select site dundee.cloud.panopto.eu
Step 3: Login using UoD Single Sign-on (using your standard UoD log-in/credentials).
Step 4: By default your video will upload to your My Folder, click Browse to select a different upload location.
Step 5: Click Blue plus icon, and then click the Upload media.
Step 6: Find and select your video.
Step 7: You will be notified when your mobile upload is complete and processed.
