January Newsletter
New Term, New Decade, New Updates
Hi all, we hope everyone had a lovely festive period. At CTIL we’ve been busy gathering our breath after exams, preparing for a Java Update to My Dundee, planning some upcoming Office of Professional Development workshops, and preparing a spring-clean for our out-dated Organisations.
Java Update
Last night (3 February 2020), My Dundee was updated to use Java 11. We are pleased that early testing of the systems ensured a smooth transition, as we recorded no disruptions!
Exams
As the Online Exam team have got a chance to catch their breath after the December exam diet, they reviewed their data and found that they ran 84 exams in two weeks, with 5006 students sitting in the official exam diet! That means that on average, there were around 8-9 exams a day with around 60 students sitting each exam.
Changes to Organisations
All new Organisations will be created as an Ultra Organisation, unless there is a clear business case made for it to be made as an Original Organisation. If you want to create a new Organisation, please fill out this form. If you want a Sandbox site to test Ultra out, please let us know and we’ll be happy to have a chat about this with you.
Additionally, we have gone through a review of Organisations, and are set to start archiving those that meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Has not been accessed since 2017 by either staff or Students.
- Has no Leader associated with the Organisation
- Has no active students associated with the Organisation
- Has never been accessed
All leaders of affected Organisations have been notified in case they want to keep their Organisation active. Currently we have 818 Organisations, of those 576 Organisations met the above criteria, only 8 of those are being kept live at the request of the Organisation leader. Cleary, it was time for a bit of a spring clean-up!
