What is it?
Panopto has replaced YuJa as the University of Dundee’s video management platform. While we were able to migrate your video content, the captions from YuJa could not be transferred. However, all migrated videos in Panopto are automatically equipped with high-quality, auto-generated captions, which early users have found to be even better than before.
If you had previously spent time correcting captions in YuJa, we understand your desire to maintain that level of accuracy and accessibility in Panopto.
What does it do?
This guide will walk you through the process of downloading your original captions from YuJa and uploading them to your corresponding Panopto videos, ensuring the accessibility and quality of your content remains.
What should I know?
Download your captions in YuJa
Step 1: Log in to YuJa and locate your video.
Step 2: Hover over the video thumbnail and click on ‘More’
Step 3: In the Media Details window select ‘Accessibility’ from the left hand menu.
Step 4: In the Captions tab click on the download icon, this will automatically download the SRT caption file to your machine.
Upload your captions to Panopto
To proceed, you will need to first remove the auto-generated captions provided by Panopto. Once removed, you can then upload your YuJa caption file.
Step 1: Log in to Panopto and locate your video.
Step 2: Hover over the video thumbnail and click on the ‘Settings’ gear cog
Step 3: In the settings window select ‘Captions’ from the left hand menu.
Step 4: Expand the area under ‘Available Captions’ click on ‘Delete Captions’ click ‘OK’. This deletes the captions that currently exist in Panopto.
Step 5: Under the area labelled ‘Upload Captions’ click on ‘Choose file’ navigate to the SRT file you downloaded from YuJa.
Step 6: In the same area click on ‘Upload Captions’.
You have now replaced the autogenerated captions with the ones edited in YuJa. It will take a few minutes to upload and synchronise depending on the duration of the video.
